You will be staying in the heart of the Thuringia Forest, in the green heart of Germany, and yet central enough for any number of activities and excursions. Within just a short time you are on the legendary Rennsteig – the ideal place for hiking, cycling or skiing. The surrounding environment includes several hundred kilometres of well constructed and signposted cycling and hiking paths, superbly prepared skiing trails in the winter, as well as a DSV (German Ski Association) Nordic Active Centre in the locality. The nearest ski slope is just five minutes’ walk from your holiday home, with ski lifts and a ski hire station. Further up the hill is the Werner-Lesser Schanzen Arena (ski jumping hill), with regular tours with former professional ski jumper Dietmar Aschenbach available.
The Inselberg bathing facility, including a sauna and water slides, as well as the medical wellness and kneipp resort of Tabarz, with its aqua and sauna experience, invite guests to relax and enjoy wellness facilities. When it’s hot the Ebertswiese mountain lake is the ideal place to cool off. In Schmalkalden, Bad Liebenstein and Bad Salzungen guests can visit lakes, castles as well as beautiful gardens and parks. Not far away, near Eisenach, the world famous Wartburg tells of times gone by, while Suhl is home to the Waffenmuseum (Guns Museum), the only specialist museum for hand guns in Europe. The Meininger Theater combines culture with modernity. The Viba Nougat World (Nugat Welt) in Schmalkalden provides a modern showcase of the tradition of nougat and praline making, and in the centre of the setting of the 2015 Land Garden Show.
The time will flash by for your children as they enjoy themselves at the ‘Wie-Flyer’ toboggan run, the ‘Mini-a-Thür’ miniature village and sled run, the ‘Zwergenpark’ gnomes garden and the waterfall. The Zella-Mehlis Aquarium, the Exotarium in Oberhof, the Explorata in Suhl and the car museums in Eisenach and Suhl carry you off to the fascinating worlds of nature and technology. The winter sports Mecca of Oberhof, with its bob sleigh, the Rennsteiggarten garden, climbing garden and ski slope, offers something for every visitor. In the high season, international cross country skiing and biathlon events can be watched here live. There is almost no leisure interest that can’t be pursued in your holiday region – and in the heart of nature! All you have to do is enjoy yourself!
